TOPEKA, Kan. – Competition at the 2019 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Bowling Invitational began on Thursday with six rounds (four games) of Baker play. After nearly six hours of bowling the men and women of Indiana Tech earned the top-seeds heading into bracketed match play on Friday. The women of Midland University earned the 4th-seed while the men will be seeded 9th.
The Lady Warriors overcame a slow start but came on strong late, jumping four spots from after the second set to the end of qualifying. The men’s team struggled to get consistent play throughout the day with a young team on the lanes.
After qualifying the Warriors participated in the NAIA’s Teaming Up for Character event working with the Special Olympics of Kansas. Teams were paired up with local area special Olympians and spent the afternoon sharing their love for the game.
Later on the teams met up once again at the Historic Harley Davidson and the Evel Knievel Museum for the annual postseason banquet. All-America teams and other awards were announced during the dinner as well. Brittney Schnicke and Zach Karr were both named All-Americans to their respective second teams.
Match play will begin on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. The Midland men will begin bracketed match play against Lawrence Tech in round one. The women receive a bye and will take on the winner of William Penn and Grand View at 10:00 a.m. A complete men’s bracket can be seen here, and the women’s is available here.
