Swimmers Place 2nd & 6th Overall at Cotter Meet

The Fremont Tigers swim team put out some excellent performances at Saturday’s meet in Lincoln – medals, meet records, and state cuts were all captured by the team.

Girls

The girls medley relay swam ny Emma Walz, Lauren Gifford, Kinley Shallberg, and Karsen Jesse posted a season best time, winning the relay and setting a new Cotter meet record.  The previous record had been held by a Grand Island team from 2014.  This same foursome ended the meet in style with a state automatic cut and first place finish in the 400 free relay as well.

Continuing the momentum Karsen Jesse placed 2nd in the 200 free with a season best time and earned her first trip to the podium.  Later in the meet, Karsen dropped 10 seconds in her 500 free to place 3rd and make another trip back to the podium.

In the third girls race of the day, Lauren Gifford also kept the momentum going and won the 200 IM for the tigers with a season best time.  Lauren won the top spot on the podium and the banana.  Gifford also took the 100 breast later in the meet less than a second off her school record.  She added another banana, medal and top finish to her amazing day earning her subway swimmer of the meet honors.

Emma Walz added to the 4th event for the tigers where she placed 2nd in the 50 free.  This was a huge race for Emma as many of the girls were doing it in tech suits and rested so to place 2nd was great to see from her.  However Emma’s best and most fun race came in the 100 backstroke where she and cousin/teammate Kinley Shallberg placed 1-2 in the event respectively.  Both were just off their top times this season but went out and raced.  It was very exciting to see both get to the wall before everyone else. Kinley also added a 5th place finish in a season best time in her 100 free which added points to the tigers and showed she is getting ready to race.

Kylie Schurz had a huge meet for the tigers as well, dropping over 12 seconds in her 200 free, and then dropping 27 seconds in her 500 free to score for the tigers.  Kylie also had a huge relay leg for the 200 Free relay where she went 29 for the first time this season.

Addie Schiemann added to the tigers points in the 200 IM placing 9th just off her season best time, while in the 100 fly she placed 8th which where huge points for the team.

Elizabeth Morrison set more lifetime bests dropping a second in both her 200 and 100 frees but her swim of the day came in the 200 free relay when she swam a 28 for the first time as the lead leg.  This was a huge boost for her and seeing that her sprints are coming along.

Lolly Barnes also had time drops for the tigers cutting 3 seconds off both her 50 free and 100 frees and earning a banana for the team in the 100 free.

Other girls time drops for the tigers included Kelseigh Olson’s 22 second drop in her 500 free, Ellie Schiemann’s 3 second drop in her 100 breaststroke, and Jasmin Ruscher’s 1 second in her 100 free.

Boys

The boys side was just as exciting for the tigers starting out with the medley relay of Mack Prince, Jack Norris, Colton Juhl, and AJ Jacobus placing 2nd to earn a medal in a season best time.  This same foursome ended the meet with a strong season best time in the 400 free relay as well.

The race of the day probably came shortly after the relay in the 200 free where AJ Jacobus raced to a 5th place finish dropping over 6 seconds and gaining a state secondary cut.  AJ is the first boy on the team this year to break the 2 minute mark in the 100 free and this race earned him subway swimmer of the meet honors.  AJ also added another 5th place medal in his 100 backstroke late in the meet.

Colton Juhl also brought home an individual medal for the tigers in the 50 free improving his season best time and moving up on the state charts.  His biggest swim of the day however came as the lead leg on the 400 free relay where he clipped out a 51.55 almost a second faster than his open 100.

Mack Prince was another individual medalist for the tigers placing 3rd in the 100 backstroke with a season best time.  Mack also swam a strong anchor leg in the 400 free relay that placed 5th for the boys, and his open 100 was just off his season best this year.

Jack Norris showed strong for the tigers in the 50 free swimming a great 25 for the first time this season, and his 100 breast just off his season best time.  Jack had a huge 57 100 free for the boys in the 400 free relay helping give them that season best time.

Isaac Follett had huge time drops for the tigers dropping 2 seconds in the 100 fly but over 15 seconds in his 200 free.  Isaac is showing to be a strong middle distance swimmer for the tigers.

Zach Johnson earned a banana for the tigers with a 2 second drop in his 100 free, as well as dropped 3 seconds in his 200 free.

Logan Kirk had a big meet breaking 27 for the first time in his 50 free, as well as a 1:00 in his 100 free.  Logan is so close to breaking that one minute mark and we can’t wait to see that happen.

Daniel Young also dropped over a second on his 50 free to break into the 28’s for the tigers which was great to see him to before we start any rest.
