Sam Hauser hit a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation and Markus Howard scored a BIG EAST record 53 points to help No. 21 Marquette post a 106-104 overtime victory at Creighton on Wednesday night before 17,085 fans in Omaha.

The Golden Eagles trailed 85-80 with 8.9 seconds left, but got a putback from Joseph Chartouny with 0.8 left and after a Bluejay turnover tied the game on Hauser’s desperation heave from the left wing. Howard did the rest, scoring Marquette’s (13-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) first 11 points in overtime en route to breaking his own league and school record for points in a game. Marquette did not lead until scoring the first basket of the overtime session, and did not trail in the extra session after scoring the first five points in OT.

Ty-Shon Alexander had 23 points and Davion Mintzadded a career-best 21 points for Creighton (10-6, 1-2 BIG EAST). Creighton shot 50.8 percent for the game (30-65) and drained 17-of-33 three-pointers (51.5 percent) in addition to 21-of-26 marksmanship (80.8 percent) at the line.
