Local Scoreboard: Golf & Soccer Results from 9-9-19


The Fremont High girls golf team took on Elkhorn South and Marian in a match play format, yesterday, at Stone Creek Golf Course.  Elkhorn South took first with 27 points.  Marian was second with 24 and Fremont finished third, with six.

The Midland women’s golf team finished fourth out of eight teams in the Warrior Invite yesterday, at the Fremont Golf Club.  Midland shot a 364.  Mount Marty won the meet at 354.

Victoria Sulo of College of St. Mary was the meet medalist with an 80.

Playing for the Huskers, Kate Smith fired a one-under-par 143 over two rounds to sit in a tie for 10th after the opening day of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Monday.

Smith, a senior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., carded a one-under-par 71 in the opening round before adding an even-par 72 on the 6,317-yard layout of the UNM Championship Course. For the day, Smith produced 27 pars, five birdies and four bogeys. She was one of 13 golfers in the talented 87-player field to finish better than par through the first 36 holes.

The tournament concludes with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday.

Omaha Soccer


The Omaha men’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision vs. UNLV on Monday night at Caniglia Field.

The Mavericks slip to 0-3-1 on the season with the loss while the Rebels improve to 1-3-0.

The Mavericks continue play at home, hosting Michigan on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.


An early goal from junior Nico Engelking helped propel the Creighton men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Columbia on Monday afternoon at Morrison Stadium.

With the win, Creighton moved to 2-1-1 on the season, while Columbia fell to 0-1-1 overall.

Creighton will return to the pitch on Friday when the Bluejays host UC Irvine at Morrison Stadium. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Anteaters is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
