Sex Offender Arrested by NSP After Absconding Lincoln Correctional Facility

LINCOLN – The Nebraska State Patrol has arrested escaped inmate William Mathes this afternoon, after he was reported missing when he did not appear at his place of work this morning. Mathes was in a community custody facility and allowed daily leave.

The Nebraska State Patrol located the missing inmate still in the city of Lincoln. Mathes will now be remanded to the state’s Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC). His case will be referred to the county attorney’s office for the determination of any additional charges.

Mathes is serving a three- to- four year sentence for violating the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act in Lancaster County. He was sentenced as a multiple offender. “CCC-L,” the facility Mathes walked out of, is one of two community custody facilities operated by NDCS. Community custody is the lowest custody level and the least restrictive facility. Inmates are allowed to participate in work opportunities, attend school and religious services with prior approval and without direct supervision.
