BLAIR – Six pilots, and a mechanic with the Omaha Police Department’s Air Support are now based at the Blair Municipal Airport. An official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at 9 a.m. provided an opportunity to see the renovated hangar. That $1.2 million dollar renovation funded by the City of Omaha. OPD has been using helicopters for 24 years, originally housed at Eppley, most recently at the North Omaha Airport near 72nd Street and Highway 36, the move to the Blair airport will provide less air traffic to contend with and easier landing/takeoff factors. Blair City Administrator Rod Storm, one of the negotiators for the agreement, says an added bonus is extra law enforcement presence in the area and mutual aid agreements between those agencies.
